Southern Nevada Legal Aid needs more Pro-Bono Attorneys

Veterans In Politics International was called upon to acquire information as to why the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada failed to provide Legal Representation to litigants that meet their financial qualification guidelines, but were told that they don’t have enough resources to take their case.

On August 11th the President of Veterans In Politics International Steve Sanson and one of the Clark County Family Court Litigant’s Welthy Silva Investigate.

We were greeted by Sara Funtek Pro Bono Volunteer Coordinator and Noah V. Malgeri, ESQ. Pro Bono Project Director, after a lengthy conversation we were told that they are not enough attorneys to facilitate the Pro Bono work.

In addition, we were advised that if a litigant qualifies and the resources were not currently available, that they are instructed to file a grievance and they would prioritized your case accordingly.

A stronger priority is giving to litigants that are in a current Domestic Violence situation, destitute and out on the streets and abused minor children.

Basically financially you might qualify but for them to place your case in the severe priority standards you must meet the other requirements as well.

We did echo the fact that most litigants are trying to avoid that situation by having preventive maintenance in place before a situation gets out of hand.

The bottom line is more Pro Bono Attorneys are needed and more donations from outside sources are always welcome.

There are also classes provided by the Legal Aid Center to help a litigant understand the legal process to make them a more knowledgeable pro-se litigants.

Family Court Judge Vincent Ochoa don’t believe in Conflicts of Interest or the Appearance of Impropriety.

Maybe he needs to go back to Judicial College or take a refreshers course with the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline! In addition, we were advised that if a litigant qualifies and the resources were not currently available, that they are instructed to file a grievance and they would prioritized your case accordingly.
