A BLACK ROBE AND A LICENSE TO “LIE?” JUDGE GONZALEZ IS TONE-DEAF TO ETHICS

September 17, 2014
Clark County, Nevada

Veterans In Politics International (VIPI) has discovered that Judge William “Bill” Gonzalez has lied to voters. On his official re-election website, on the very front page directed to voters, he claims to have been a Judge for six years. At the creation of this website and statement, Judge Gonzalez had not even been on the bench for 5 years (see website: http://judgebillgonzalez.com/ ).

He was appointed as Judge in March 2009. Judicial Canon 4.1 (11) forbid this, AND NRS 294A.290, the Code of Fair Campaign Practices, clearly states

3. I will not use campaign material which misrepresents, distorts or otherwise falsifies the facts, nor will I use malicious or unfounded accusations which are intended to create or exploit doubts, without justification, about the personal integrity of my opposition.

Even if this is passed off as an excuse of a campaign manager, Judicial Canon 4.2 (3) makes him responsible.

Judge Gonzalez has openly and publicly discussed some cases on the campaign trail for his own selfish political gain (violation of Judicial Canon 4.1 (13)) to several attorneys and candidates. Judges and Judicial Candidates are forbidden to discuss open or pending motions before the court, in an attempt to avoid an impropriety. He has openly called one litigant a “deadbeat loser” that was unhappy with his rulings, despite them being clear violations of his rights as a Disabled Veteran.

Judicial Canon 2.3, Bias, Prejudice, and Harassment, clearly state:

(B) A judge shall not, in the performance of judicial duties, by words or conduct manifest bias or prejudice, or engage in harassment, including but not limited to bias, prejudice, or harassment based upon race, sex, gender, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, marital status, socioeconomic status, or political affiliation, and shall not permit court staff, court officials, or others subject to the judge’s direction and control to do so.

In ruling that one litigant’s disabilities were the factor in denying his motions to modify his custody and support, and for finding him to be willfully unemployed, he violated the basic rules that a Judge has to follow to avoid an impropriety. How can this Veteran believe that they will ever get a fair “day in Court?”

Judicial Canon 2.4, External Influences on Judicial Conduct, (A) A judge shall not be swayed by public clamor or fear of criticism. However, once faced with public criticism for his ruling on one Veteran as being willfully unemployed, he recused himself from the case. He also changes his method of ruling from the bench when Veterans In Politics is present in his courtroom.

Also, in Canon 2.4 (B) A judge shall not permit family, social, political, financial, or other interests or relationships to influence the judge’s judicial conduct or judgment, and on his personal website for re-election, he uses his family status of being raised by a single mother after his father left them as his basis for the gender bias rulings that favor women in his courtroom.

Judicial Canon 4.1 (10) use court staff, facilities, or other court resources in a campaign for judicial office; — Judge Gonzalez has summoned attorneys to his chambers under the veil of being work related to seek their public support for his campaign, as well as call and text attorneys day and night and on weekends in order to get them to publicly support him and give him the almighty campaign contribution dollar. Judge Gonzalez has also called Police Unions and other Clark County Establishments to gain their endorsement without having to go through the interview process and doing so during tax payers working hours.
