Clark County Nevada

March 26, 2025

Misconduct, wrongful convictions, and ethical violations have marred William Kephart’s long history as a prosecutor and judge in Nevada. As he seeks the Clark County District Attorney role, voters must examine his troubling record and consider whether he genuinely represents justice and integrity.

\A Track Record of Wrongful Convictions:

One of the most alarming examples of Kephart’s prosecutorial misconduct is his role in the wrongful conviction of Fred Steese. In 1995, Kephart helped prosecute Steese for murder, securing a conviction that led to over 20 years of wrongful imprisonment. Later, when new evidence proved Steese’s innocence, a judge ruled that he had been “actually innocent,” meaning he never should have been convicted in the first place. This case highlights Kephart’s willingness to prioritize convictions over truth, a dangerous trait for any prosecutor.

Repeated Misconduct and Supreme Court Reprimands:

Kephart’s behavior has not gone unnoticed by Nevada’s highest courts. The Nevada Supreme Court has reprimanded him multiple times for unethical behavior, including misconduct during trials and statements that misrepresented evidence. Such reprimands are rare, underscoring the severity of his actions.

For example, in one case, Kephart made misleading claims about forensic evidence, leading to a conviction based on false or exaggerated scientific claims. This type of conduct does not align with the principles of fairness and due process that a District Attorney should uphold.

Ethical Violations as a Judge:

Even after becoming a judge, Kephart’s problems with ethics persisted. In 2020, the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline publicly reprimanded him for ethics violations. Instead of demonstrating fairness and impartiality, Kephart showed a pattern of bias and misconduct from the bench, raising serious concerns about whether he can be trusted to oversee fair prosecutions as District Attorney.

Why Clark County Deserves Better:

The District Attorney’s office has immense power—determining who is prosecuted, what charges are pursued, and whether justice is served fairly. Clark County cannot afford a DA with a history of bending the rules, disregarding ethics, and ruining lives with wrongful convictions.

Instead, the county needs a leader who values truth, fairness, and justice, not just a high conviction rate. William Kephart has proven that he does not meet that standard.

The Choice is Clear: Say NO to William Kephart:

Clark County voters must demand better from their justice system. William Kephart’s history of wrongful convictions, prosecutorial misconduct, and ethical violations makes him unfit for the role of District Attorney.

Vote for justice. Vote for integrity. Vote NO on William Kephart.
