Veterans In Politics video internet talk show interviewed Amata Radewagen United States Congresswoman representing American Samoa with special cohost Stephanie Phillips.

Radewagen is the only woman to hold the office of Congress representing American Samoa, she is in her 4th term.

Radewagen said 10 percent of American Samoa are military veterans and another 10 percent are active military.

Radewagen ran for office 10 times before she won the seat of congress, she beat the incumbent with the nickname “unbeatable”.

Radewagen sits on the following committees’ House Veterans Committee and Natural Resources Committee.

Radewagen said there is only a Veterans Administration (VA) Clinic and she is pushing for VA Hospital that will cost about $900 million in American Samoa.

American Samoa is a U.S. territory covering 7 South Pacific islands and atolls. Tutuila, the largest island, is home to the capital Pago Pago, whose natural harbor is framed by volcanic peaks including 1,716-ft.-high Rainmaker Mountain. Divided between the islands Tutuila, Ofu, and Ta‘ū, the National Park of American Samoa highlights the territory’s tropical scenery with rainforests, beaches, and reefs.

As a member of congress, Radewagen doesn’t vote on the final passage of the bill when it is on the house floor, but she votes in committee.

The host said that many military veterans that are not American citizens are being deported for misdemeanors and wanted to know if she would propose a bill to make military veterans automatically eligible for citizenship.

Radewagen said she will look into it.
